  • High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) circuit oxygen therapy comprises an air/oxygen blender, an active humidifier CHAMBER, a single heated circuitIt delivers adequately heated and humidified medical gas at up to 60 L/min of flow and is considered to have a number of physiological effects: reduction of anatomical dead space, PEEP effect, a constant fraction of inspired oxygen, and good humidification.
  • A High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) circuit is a respiratory support system used to deliver high-flow oxygen therapy to patients. It consists of several components that work together to provide a controlled flow of oxygen-enriched air to the patient's airway.
  • High Flow Oxygen Source: The HFNC circuit starts with a high flow oxygen source, which can be a specialized high-flow oxygen system or an oxygen concentrator. This device provides a constant supply of oxygen at a high flow rate to meet the patient's respiratory needs.
  • Air-Oxygen Blender: The air-oxygen blender is responsible for mixing the oxygen from the high flow source with room air to achieve the desired oxygen concentration or FiO2 (Fraction of Inspired Oxygen). The blender allows precise control over the FiO2 delivered to the patient, which can be adjusted based on the patient's oxygen requirements.
  • Flow Meter: A flow meter is incorporated into the circuit to measure and regulate the flow rate of the oxygen-enriched air. The flow rate is typically set between 20 to 60 liters per minute (L/min), depending on the patient's needs and the equipment used.
  • Heated Humidifier: To ensure optimal comfort and to prevent drying of the airway, an HFNC circuit often includes a heated humidifier. The heated humidifier warms and humidifies the high-flow oxygen-enriched air before it reaches the patient's airway, helping to reduce irritation and discomfort.
  • Nasal Cannula: The nasal cannula is the interface through which the high-flow oxygen-enriched air is delivered to the patient. It consists of two small prongs that fit into the patient's nostrils. The nasal cannula is designed to deliver a high flow rate of oxygen-enriched air directly into the patient's airway.
  • Tubing: Tubing connects all the components of the HFNC circuit, allowing the flow of oxygen-enriched air from the high flow source, through the blender, humidifier, and flow meter, and finally to the patient's nasal cannula. The tubing is designed to maintain the flow rate and deliver the oxygen-enriched air without significant pressure loss.
